Google Chrome Gains Popularity, Internet Explorer Falls Further [Stats]

According to a Net Application analysis of the last month’s market share of various internet browser seem to indicate a slow, but safe growth of both Chrome and Safari, while Internet Explorer and Firefox appear to have slightly fallen.
The study has taken into account a number of 160 million visitors per month and was carried out between June and July. In this timeframe, Internet Explorer dropped 0.87%, while Firefox’s fall is of 0.19% points. On the other hand, Google’s Chrome number of visitors indicated a 0.34% growth, with Safari being the last month’s leader, gaining 0.57% points.
While the fierce fight is usually taking place between the four mentioned above, the study has also analyzed other internet browsers, such as Opera, who dropped 0.08 percentage points.

Browser Stats show Chrome’s increasing Popularity:

The 0.87 drop is no reason to worry for Microsoft, at least for the time being, since Internet Explorer is still leading the market, with 52.81% share. Internet Explorer 9, Microsoft’s latest browser grabbed 6.77 percent of the market, up by 1.14%, while IE8 lost 0.77 % and went bellow 30%, at 29.30%. The percentage however pinpoints Internet Explorer 8 is still world’s most popular browser. IE 7 managed to grab 6.29 percent of the market share, a 0.29 drop and IE6 went bellow 10% due to a 0.94 drop.
Chrome seems to be getting some serious competition from IE9, which seems to have been well received by users. But Google’s browser is also gaining some ground with his light growth, Chrome 12 reaching a 11.16% share and becoming world’s second most accessed browser, after IE8. Google’s Chrome 11, 12 and 13 altogether managed to capture 13.45% share.
Safari, despite its considerable growth, still has a long way to go, as its market share only reaches 8.05 percent.
Firefox captured 21,48%, lower than the percentage it has reached last year. Even though Mozilla’s Firefox 5 managed to capture 10.39% of the share (up by 8.34 percentage points), Firefox 4 dropped a significant 8.06 percentage, going down to only 2.40% share, while Firefox 3.6 and Firefox 3.5 lost 0.57 percentage points altogether, grabbing only 6.95%.
If the last month’s trend continues, Chrome might succeed in ranking first as world’s most popular Internet browser, given the recent increased availability on a large number of devices.
